Dr. Lints Family Update

This summer we enjoyed Traverse City and the village of Beulah and also took a trip to northern Arizona.  We flew into Phoenix and then drove to Flagstaff for two days.  Our day trip from Flagstaff was to the south rim of the Grand Canyon—wow!!  It was an awesome sight and traveling all over northern Arizona you see vistas and mountain ranges around every turn.

My dad warned me about the helicopter rides in the canyon so we hiked into the canyon a few thousand feet then backtracked.  No compass was needed—you just had to stay on the trail or fall to your death.  Hoover dam was crazy big, Oak Creek canyon was beautiful, and Sedona’s red rocks will not leave my memory.

Joel and Kyle did not come to Arizona with us.  Joel started dental school at Michigan with his buddy Danny Fisher whose dad has a practice on Garfield Rd.  Kyle took a class at Michigan State this summer and worked out to prepare for Fall Ball on the MSU team.  Any division 1 student who plays sports is very busy!!  The athletes earn every penny they receive for tuition and housing.

Our garden this summer grew well.  Friends, family and I picked almost ¾ ton of blueberries.  We froze almost 100 pounds for the fall and winter months.  Blueberry smoothies in the morning have a good effect on your taste buds.  They are even great in oat meal!!  Our Yukon gold potatoes are partially picked and some are in the ground for another month.  We expect 4-6 bushels of yukon and red skins pototoes.  The beets are already pickled in 2 gallon containers with white vinegar, sugar, and pickling spices.  The key to beet preparation is not to peel them before you boil.  Peeling allows the red colored juices to escape!  I have a few more garden items to discuss but your time is valuable so you will have to wait for my next issue.

Mary has many different kinds of flowers around our home.  Flowers are constantly blooming and cycling through their life.  We try to plant mainly perennials.  The space for annuals is minimal now but we find space in pots placed strategically around our doors and hanging on our covered porch.   Humming birds and butterflies visit our home on a regular time schedule.

Our sons are growing up quickly.  Two are in college, one in high school and the last is an 8th grader.  They all are working hard academically and as athletes.  Now, we have 3 Eagle Rank scouts in the family and hope to make it four in a few years.

I know if they met you on a street in Traverse City that each one would treat you with respect, kindness, courtesy, and help you if you were in need.

Best regards and treasure your life, for we can’t get enough!!
